Once you get past the urban sprawl, strip malls, and tract housing where the majority of us live, venture forth and see America The Beautiful. Do not see it on a National Geographic special or at an IMAX movie. Get out and go see it. Drive it. Don’t fly it, just hit the open road. Re-read Jack Kerouac and get inspired. Go see the expansiveness of this country. This week I’m in Monument Valley which straddles the Utah Arizona borders. It’s on the Navajo Nation lands and has been long protected by them. It is not part of our National Park service, but it is part of theirs. It’s quite a site. John Ford filmed a few of his westerns in this valley. The expanse and views are quite breath taking. Even the quiet is something to experience. The tranquility of this land truly awes. Monument Valley is just one place to visit in America. Now on Earth Day Eve I’d recommend putting together your bucket list of places to visit in this country. Take some time and relearn your American geography. Its good for the economy, but more importantly it’s good for you and your family.
