hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...i am loving my kindle & to be honest, havent \fired up\ my solar-powered charging thingy...will let you know how it works. amazed at how rarely i need to recharge the device: really uses most power when connected for searching for additional materials to download. I have read more books in the past 3 months than I have in the past 3 years...imagine all the paper/lugging saved when the colleges and other institutions have materials available for the reading devices...thanks for the article, John!

What about migratory birds- and who's view of the coast will be affected and accepted? While I agree with the goal of less dependency and use of fossil fuel, didn't Cape Cod resist the placement of windmills off their coast?

Yes! I am a very optimistic person, but I still holding my breath, although I did get a few deep breaths of relief, as it was the first good news I heard since April 20th. I can breath... I will choose to believe, as I think on some deep spiritual level it helps. :) At the same time, my concern for the wildlife, cleaning up the oil, our reefs, our water supply and those disperants, the methane gas you speak of, our food chain and eco system, altnative energy sources to create a movement toward clean energy, and all the violatins committed in the course of events, the letters that need to be sent out, the petitions, the methods of cleaning, human health and safety, and the assessment of damages still being created, are all reality issues that make it clear, it is NOT over. But ...all this coming from an optimist..that is scary too. Faith and hope is all I have left.

Did not see the President's speech; however, I definitely agree with you when it comes to what his actions should be. Along with compassion should come a strong, decisive, authoritative reaction with a planned out solution for the problem. After all, he represents the US, and his decisions affect ecosystems that expand into other countries and have repercussions on numerous other areas. The compassionate approach is something I expect from my neighbor, my mother or my colleagues... not the President; yes, it is a beautiful thing but if he that has the power to make things happen doesn't step up, then would he let someone else take charge on managing the recovery and sped up action towards the oil spill please?
Disappointment along with discontent, frustration and anger arise within, paired with hope that this issue will be dealt with correctly, quickly and effectively....

Agreed. President Obama's speech gave us more rhetoric, but no plan of action. We need to build a clean energy industry in America now, and we need our Commander in Chief to start leading the way. Job creation, national security, and the future of our planet's health depends upon it.

Let's do something instead of just turning on the news to see the latest animal covered in oil or dead birds and turtles; and the devastation done to the earth and another blow to the people of the south.
