Amazon is now selling a do-it-yourself solar panel kit from SpinRay Energy.  The kit costs $1099.95 and comes with brackets that can attach to a deck, or for setting up the panels in your yard.  No electrician or installer is needed, and which may be one of the best features, no permits are needed to install the panels.  The panels are plug and play, and are considered appliances, which allows them to by pass permitting. SpinRay has developed a system that lets consumers install up to five solar panels on their decks and plug them into an outdoor power outlet. People can install one panel at a time, and get up to 1,000 watts of power with five installed, which would be sufficient to power a few home appliances.  The main electrical components of the system have the UL safety certification, including the solar panel and the micro inverter, which converts direct current from the panels to household alternating current.  When the panels are working the electricity generated will slow the household meter.  The kit does come with a mini-converter that is placed directly under the panels so that each one outputs alternating current.   The plugs to connect the panels into an outdoor outlet have coverings to protect them from water.  Consumers who don’t want to go the self-install route can also add solar panels incrementally, which is made easier with the micro inverters. Roofers or solar installers can install the panels on the roof, and electricians can do the connection to a home circuit box.
