In the last few years Green has become the new media darling. Numerous companies have benefited from being in the green media spotlight, ours included. As with all darlings, it seems that the luster is beginning to wear off. George Will had an interesting column today. His comments focused on an animated sitcom called the Goode Family, and their green angst antics. Guilty green was one of his highlights, and it caught my attention. Guilt is a powerful condition in human relationships. Using guilt to get you to buy green or to consider being green in your daily lives is ethically disturbing. Our society is built on choices. You should have the choice as to how you wish to lead your lives. Not being told or dictated to by anyone, as long as it is well within the laws we have created as a society, is our right. But, using green guilt to ridicule or point fingers at, will not work to promote a greener world. Facts and scientific research will. Hopefully people will consider the proper scientific ethics for choosing green lifestyles, and not be guilted into thinking that they should be. That only leads to green resentment.
